Lead: Communications & Digital narratives

Saket Shrotri, PhD

A pollination ecologist as a profession and  science writer by hobby. Specialised in translating complex ecological research into engaging narratives and infographics.

I am a photographer, reader, and writer working at the intersection of science and storytelling, with a strong commitment to science without boundaries and critical thinking in native languages. My long-term aim is to document indigenous ecological knowledge and make it openly accessible, while building public awareness about plants and their pollinators through outreach, photography, posters, logos, and digital platforms. Plant blindness is a real phenomenon; however, it is curable through observation, education, and increased awareness. This idea continues to shape my approach of accessible, visual science communication.

By training, I am a plant ecologist. I earned my PhD in plant ecology and floral evolution from IISER Bhopal, where my research focused on plant–pollination ecology at population and community scales. Specifically, I explored how pollinators’ foraging behavior evolves and influences the diversity of floral traits. To answer these questions, I combined extensive field experiments across UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Western Ghats with molecular tools and advanced statistical modeling.

My current research focuses on flowering phenology in the context of climate change, a topic I will continue to explore as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Southern Denmark, starting in January 2026. At its core, my research seeks to understand how intra-specific variation, species interactions, and environmental parameters shape plant–pollinator dynamics, floral trait diversity, and the timing of flowering in ecological communities.

Beyond research, I am deeply invested in making science more open, inclusive, and multilingual. I believe that science, when communicated only within academic circles, loses much of its potential to drive change. Through my work, whether it is field research, writing, photography, or visual design, I strive to bridge that gap, creating resources that resonate with both scientific and non-scientific audiences alike.
